My love of food started a long time ago, but it was reaching the final three on MasterChef that allowed me to believe that I could be more than just a home cook.
I still feel odd calling myself a chef. I am just someone who loves to cook. Having gone through school “lacking concentration” I found my inspiration in home economics. The thrill of taking in a bag of ingredients and leaving an hour and a half later with a tasty meal gave me a sense of achievement I hadn’t felt before – and this is how i fell in love with cooking. I chose head over heart, and went to do A Levels and university over catering college, hoping that i could still return to my passion for cooking at some stage.
Many people ask me where my middle-eastern influences come from. Having had many opportunities to travel both growing up and with my career, i developed a love of interesting and exotic tastes, particularly during trips to Israel, Egypt and Morocco. This, combined with my mother-in-law’s family’s north African roots, inspired my passion for middle eastern spices and flavours. It was also important to me to combine my passion for cooking with my cultural heritage.
As a die-hard Masterchef fan, I have often had fleeting thoughts about entering, but it took years of dinner parties and friends and family persuading me that spurred me on. I knew I could make tasty food, but I was never fantastic at presenting it like they did on Masterchef. I wasn’t going to let that deter me, I turned 40, had a “life begins” moment and took the plunge.
I have never been trained to cook. I am instinctive about what i make and the taste combinations I put together. The guys at Masterchef were really encouraging and told me that presentation could be learned, but creating great tasting food was a gift. I am thrilled to finally be putting this to good use and pursuing my ultimate passion – Food.

"Emma hosted a lovely evening for a group of 8 of us and everything was perfect! The food was excellent - wonderful flavours and everything you would expect from a Masterchef finalist. It was also great chatting to Emma and her husband, who both made us all feel very welcome in their home. I would highly recommend booking Emma for dinner!"
